The Berkelbike FES computer add-on is compatible with the Berkelbike Pro and Connect. Build muscle effectively in paralysed legs with optimised FES Programs and avoid health complications. It comes with cables and a set of adhesive electrodes which should be placed on the main leg muscle groups.
Contract muscles via the usage of Adhesive Electrodes or using the FES Shorts Add-on. Functional electrical stimulation is achieved with the onboard Berkelbike FES computer which sends electrical impulses to the peripheral nerves in the correct sequence. This then enables the user, which could have various different types of neurological problems such as MS, SCI etc, to cycle almost as normal while using the system.
A sensor on the Berkelbike Pro is triggered by rotating the Arm cycle, or pushing one knee if on the Berkelbike EasyLegs, (as seen in the Cybathlon). Programs are configured to the users anatomy and can be optimised to improve FES cycling performance.

I think when you do go on the bike, and you do see the muscle tone start returning with them. They start looking a little bit more like a set of legs when you look down on them. Whether it's psychological or not, it makes it a bit easier when you want to wear shorts that's for sure.
